  • Is wearing an apron violating my status as a career woman?

    Claudia asked:

I am in a role reversal marriage. My husband stays home full-time and I work as an attorney.

I recently decided to host a dinner party - and I did all of the cooking. I never cook, but decided to venture.

I wore a nice cocktail dress to the party, but also opted to wear a hostess apron to protect my dress. It was very pretty (green and red floral). At the party the wife of one of my associates goes, “So you’re wearing an apron. Looks like you are giving up on being super career woman”.

What should I make of that comment? Yes it was stupid, but is it true. Is wearing an apron a sign of regression after all I worked for to become a sole breadwinner and independent woman?

Is Dress Barn an expensive store?

    Grace1228 asked:

I need a dress for New Years and saw one I liked in a Dress Barn flyer, but I’ve never been there. Does anyone know if they have decent prices or if they’re expensive? (For me, I don’t think I’d want to spend more than maybe $70-$80 on a cocktail dress). Thanks!

How to Find a Perfect Evening Dress

    Deal Girls asked:

While many women need to have a few evening dresses to go out and attend various functions, many of them have a hard time finding a good evening dress. There are so many evening dresses and gowns available online and at the stores, that women find it very hard to pick the dress that is right for them.

We recommend picking a dress that is good for a particular occasion, and at the same time looks good on you. You should also feel comfortable in the dress – when you do not feel comfortable in a dress, you also don’t feel good about the way you look. When you feel great about the way you look, you are relaxed and are able to enjoy the party.

Here are different dresses you can purchase for the party you are going to:

    - Holiday And Christmas Dresses. These are usually fun dresses that you wear to holiday and Christmas parties. After reviewing many of them, we have found that they come in both short and long, so you can get either length. We recommend that you get the length that you are comfortable with, and that is appropriate for the particular party you are going to.

Of course the holiday dresses usually come in two colors, red and green. Pick the one that is more appropriate for you. We usually recommend red dresses for women with black, brown and darker hair colors, and green dresses for women with blond, red and lighter hair colors.

    - Cocktail Dresses are usually fun and flirty dresses that are appropriate to wear to a cocktail party. They come in many different colors – from white and light beige all the way to navy blue and black. Cocktail dresses are usually on the shorter side, their length is usually knee-length or even shorter.

Since cocktail dresses come in many different colors, we recommend that you pick a cocktail dress of the color that works best for you and your complexion. We usually recommend dresses in different shades of red (red, purple, pink, orange) for women with black, brown and darker hair colors, and blue and green dresses for women with blond, red and lighter hair colors.

    - Ball And Evening Dresses And Gowns. These are very dressy and stylish dresses. They are usually worn to proms, stylish parties and very special events. These are usually dressy and long gowns, reserved for special occasions.

Ball and evening dresses and gowns come in a variety of colors. We recommend that you pick a dress or gown that looks good on you, and that comes in a color that looks good on you. As we noted above, we usually recommend dresses in different shades of red for women with darker hair colors, and blue and green dresses for women with lighter hair colors. Check out different colors and see which ones look best on you!

Holiday Party? Rent Cocktail Dresses Cheap!

    Rebecca Williams asked:

It’s that time of year againholiday parties, reunions, office Christmas parties…it seems like you need another cocktail dress every weekend! Unfortunately, a lot of the same people are at the parties, so you can’t really wear the same dress twice! But how do you afford looking great in the best cocktail dresses, while still saving money to buy everyone gifts?

Rather than looking for cheap sales (as if there are any right before Christmas) and going from store to store every week, you should check out this new company that rents dresses called Closet Elite (www.closetelite.com) . They carry only designer cocktail dresses, with brands such as Gucci, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, as well as Betsey Johnson, Bebe, Marciano and more. And they’re cheap! You can rent them for just a fraction of the retail price, so you can wear a different cocktail dress to each party, and not feel guilty about wasting all of that money!

It’s really a great idea, I can’t believe no one offered it sooner. They have great winter dresses, holiday dresses, and everything from casual to formal dresses. You can choose your shipping method and have it by the next day. You can rent a gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana dress for under a hundred bucks (it would cost more to go buy a no-name dress from JCPenny) or get a super affordable dress from Bebe or Guess for under thirty bucks. It’s seriously worth checking out!

    The Evening Dress

    Suzie Sweet asked:

    Evening Dresses for Evening Occasions

Evening occasions call for appropriate wear. Evening dresses, however, aren’t exactly the easiest clothes to pick. In fact, as any discerning lady can attest, choosing a dress that befits any of the plethora of evening occasions that a girl is likely to attend at any given time is a task of gargantuan proportions, and one that requires considerable responsibility. Instead of succumbing to the usual panic of having nothing to wear, take a deep breath, look at the bigger picture of your closet, and find the evening dress that’s most appropriate for the occasion.

    Cocktail Dresses for Cocktail Parties

Cocktail parties are intimate little soirees enjoyed over drinks and finger food. It’s not a full-scale formal evening event, but it’s still classy and fancy enough to merit careful attention in terms of dress. It goes without saying that you can’t show up at a cocktail party dressed in no more than jeans and a t-shirt. The most appropriate garb is aptly called the cocktail dress.

These types of evening dresses often show skin, but not excessively so. A cocktail dress demands sexiness, not ’skankiness’. A strapless or spaghetti-strapped one-piece little number that rests just above the knee is more than appropriate. Accessorize your evening dress with a subtle necklace and matching dangling earrings, and you’re all set!

    Dress Smart for Office Parties

Office parties are often a tad trickier than most events. You have to go beyond your usual everyday office garb in order to get into the spirit of things, while also maintaining decorum and professionalism. After all, you don’t want your boss and colleagues to think less of you.

For office parties, evening dresses should be flattering and fun, yet still respectable. Go for a brightly-colored wrap dress, or one with an interesting, eye-catching print. Pair it up with **** strappy stilettos or knee-high boots. You can also wear a bit more makeup than normal to complement your evening dress.

Here’s a word of advice, though: don’t do anything stupid. Remember that you work with these people, so don’t flirt, or table dance, or anything of that sort. The best way to ensure that you keep a straight act is to avoid alcohol. Drink moderately, or better yet, stick to soft drinks.

No Black Tie for Black Tie Events

Black ties are to men as evening dresses are to women. This is definitely something that you shouldn’t take lightly. The key to the right evening dresses is pretty basic: don’t be too simple, nor too flashy. Full-length gowns are no longer a necessity these days, though these are still preferred.

The sky is the limit style-wise for evening dresses for formal events. You can go for any cut, any detail, and any design that you can think of. Just remember to choose the colors and style that suit you. Also, wear appropriate makeup and accessories.

Indeed, when it comes to evening dresses, propriety is an important requirement. Comfort, however, is even more important.
