What should I wear to an October wedding?

    kirsten.donovan asked:

I am 18 years old and will be attending a black-tie optional wedding on October 11th. It’s a Thursday night, and the bride is my boyfriend’s boss. The whole wedding is going to be very upscale and the venue is very fancy. I already have a teal, beaded cocktail dress and I really don’t want to spend money on another dress and I don’t have much time to. I wore the same dress to a September wedding but do you think the color is appropriate for an October wedding? I’m so confused because I don’t want to look out of place or make him look bad in front of his colleagues. PLEASE help!

Tips For Picking Out Evening Dresses

    Sarrah Beaumont asked:

Every girl’s closet must have evening dresses. However, with over hundreds of designs and shades, you might end up just a tad bit confused as to which type, style, color and designer to invest in.

Evening dresses are a necessity for women. At some point in our lives, we actually need to wear one. Thus, it is very important to invest in a few classic evening dresses that can be worn to more than just one occasion. Classic colors that are wise to purchase are midnight blue, black, white, silver or gold. Avoid bold, daring colors or patterns and prints. Well, actually, there are a lot of criteria to consider in buying evening dresses. Here are a few:

    1. Style

Did you know that evening dresses actually have a variety of styles? There are halter evening dresses, strapless, empire waist, princess cut, cocktail dresses, mermaids, ruffled, sweetheart, A-line or bejeweled evening dresses. However, only a few of these are considered classic styles. Empire waist, halters, strapless and spaghetti straps are the infamous evening gowns that have ruled Hollywood over the past decades. So are the mermaid, knee-length and ankle length skirts - preferably with long slits.

    2. Color

Choose neutral colors. Pastels, neutrals, earth tones - these are mostly the colors that are considered classic. No matter what the occasion, beige, white, peach, black and midnight blue will never go out of style. No matter what the occasion - be it a wedding, a ball, a black tie party, you can wear dresses with these type of shades.

Bold, bright colors such as fuchsia, canary yellow, royal blue, and jade green can go out of season. They are not exactly the right investment pieces you would want to have.

    3. Accessories

It would be a whole lot better for your evening dresses to have minimal accessories and beadworks. Simple is better. Simple is timeless. Avoid bejeweled evening dresses, or sequined ones. They actually do more harm than good.

    4. Fringes

At all costs, stay away from ruffled or fluffy evening dresses. Stay away from styles which remind you of wedding dresses or bridesmaid dress. These types of evening dresses do not only lack the important criteria of a timeless piece: style and elegance; they also lack appeal. “Lacking appeal” is actually an understatement. These dresses are often the most hideous ones in any social gathering.

    5. Neckline Cut

Cut, is a lot similar to style. However, the neckline cut, to be more specific, affects the overall impact of your evening dress more than you thought possible. A décolleté is timeless and basically suits everyone in any size. Busty women are advised to avoid closed-neck or turtle necks. Instead of enhancing their figures, it adds bulk to their frame. Strapless dresses are also considered a classic. From the 1920s up to the present time, strapless dresses have been a fixture in any formal event. Spaghetti straps have only recently made their mark on the fashion industry, yet they have swiftly soared on top of the must-have evening dresses list.

What To Wear On A First Date

    Elaine asked:

What to wear on a first date advice for women.

If you are getting ready for your first date, you want to know what is the best outfit to wear on a first date.

Generally, it will depend on the venue of the date, the time of day and what you feel like wearing.

Obviously if you are meeting at a fine restaurant you should dress appropriately. I suggest that if you are not familiar with the place, do a search online to find the restaurant’s website and call them up to see what acceptable dress code is for that place. If the place is classy, I suggest wearing a cocktail dress. Whether you are meeting at the bar or your date has made table reservations, a cocktail dress is appropriate for each of those two occasions.

If you are meeting at a coffee shop, Starbucks for instance, you can wear a more casuual outfit. Obviously high heels and a cocktail dress would look silly at a coffee shop. Jeans and a nice blouse are more acceptable, although I suggest that if you want to really impress your date you should meet him at a nice place where you can wear an outfit that really shows your femininity.

Sometimes people meet at odd places for a first date, such as a hiking trail or a park. If that’s where you are going to meet your date, make sure you dress comfortably since your date warrants a lot of walking. Jeans, a comfortable shirt and tennis shoes would be your best bet in this situation.

I have had first dates at a tennis court, a swimming pool and other strange places, so always determine where you are meeting and dress appropriately. The most important thing to remember is you want to be comfortable in whatever you are wearing. Your clothes should fit you just right, not too small and not too baggy.

Prom Dress Styles That Will Stand The Test Of Time

    Gen Wright asked:

find the perfect dress, you’ll probably experience a fair bit of sticker shock. Good quality dresses can range from a pricey $50 to an obscene $300 or more. If you’re funding your own prom experience, the price can be daunting as you weigh the benefits of parting with your hard earned money. If your parents are purchasing for you, you may experience a long debate over the lasting quality of the dress.

Spending $100 or more on a one time use purchase is out of the question for many, but if you’ll use it once or twice a year for the next decade ? or longer ? it’s must easier to justify the investment. If you focus on colors, styles and quality that will stand the test of time, you’ll be better off in the long run.

    Color

A few young starlets have been seen out and about in bold, vibrant colors, such as purple or pink. These colors, while fashionable, fall in and out of favor about as often as the sun sets. At stores, you may see a plethora or pink, but next year it might be green or vivid blue.

There are several colors that are always in fashion. These old stand bys can see you through formal events from dances and banquets to weddings and graduations. Black, muted red and brown are the traditional formal neutrals which flatter nearly all skin shades.

These may seem boring, especially if you’re on the cutting edge of fashion. This color never goes out of style, though, and can act as a canvas. Instead of letting your clothing stand out, choose basic dress that flatters your figure and spice it up with sparkly jewelry, novel bags and attractive shoes that reflect your style. This one, simple dress can then embody a variety of styles and appearances, for a one time investment.

    Style

Just like color, the cuts and necklines of dresses go in and out of vogue. This year, styles reminiscent of Marylyn Monroe and flamenco dancers were seen on the red carpet. Next year ? next month, even ? these will be a thing of the fast.

Well fitted cocktail dresses or long flowing gowns, however, are always fashionable. The perfect cocktail dress should be just the right length, barely above the knee, with a bit of flair in the skirt. For gowns, look for skirts that just barely miss the floor, while you’re in heels.

Gowns can often be a good buy because they can be temporarily hemmed for seasons where short is in style, or be expanded with an underskirt of tulle for a fuller look. Both of these alterations are easy to add and later undo to make your gown an extremely versatile, long lasting wardrobe staple.

    Quality

A traditionally fashionable dress isn’t a good buy if it’s so poorly made that you’ll only get four or five uses from it. Many “boutiques” sell fashionable dresses, but they are often low quality fabric and construction that will run, tear or generally fall apart. Keep your eye on natural fabrics, such as linen, cotton and silk, and steer clear of anything synthetic.

Before you purchase a dress, take a look at the fabric, and examine it for tightness. There should be no loops, snags or other imperfections. Many dresses are silk impersonators, to decrease production costs. These should be avoided, as those fabric types are extraordinarily prone to snagging and running, and cannot be repaired.

If the fabric passes the test, turn the dress inside out and inspect the hem of the common split areas ? the zipper, waist and arms. The seam should have tight, neat stitches. Hold the fabric on either side of the seam and tug gently a few times. The stitches should stay tight. If there are any gaps when the seam is pulled, put the dress back. It will fall apart before you know it.

Designer Fabric At Its Fashionable Best

d’Italia Exclusive Designer Fabric provides the best in fabric and fashion. Ranging from classy casual to very formal, d’Italia’s fabric comes from European manufacturers who also provide for top fashion labels like Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Escada, Chanel and Balenciaga.

All of the fabric is of the finest quality, and is used mainly for the creation of wedding gowns, formal and cocktail dresses, ladies’ suits, and smart casual wear. The material is available in a variety of colours and prints, depending on seasonal trends.

If you have an idea of what you want, but are not sure of how to go about it, d’italia staff are able to provide recommendations of suitable style, colours, and the exact amount needed. In-house stylists and optional referrals to an elite team of qualified professional dressmakers are also available.

d’Italia ensures that its optional referral system is not highly recommended without a strong sense of trust and careful consideration on its part.

“All members of our team of experts available on a referral basis are of an excellent standard, and we are extremely confident in their quality of work and expertise. Not only do we scrutinise them for fundamentals such as the quality of their work, we also expect them to be able to design and to communicate well with customers, in a professional manner.

“We monitor our customers’ feedback on their work and professionalism regularly, as approximately 95% of our regular customers employ their services on an ongoing basis. Remember, many of our regular customers come to us to have most of their wardrobe made to fit, as they have trouble finding suitable clothing off-the-rack. This involves a significant outlay on the cost of our quality fabric. These customers rely on our referrals, and as such our reputation is on the line in a indirect sense. This is why we must have ultimate confidence in the expertise of our referral team!

“Considering their work is of the highest standard, their prices are surprisingly reasonable and very much affordable. Due to an exclusive arrangement whereby d’Italia refers all customers to them, these ladies deliberately work from their own professional studios (so there are no overheads here at d’Italia), so their fees are maintained at a very much lower rate than other quality seamstresses in Melbourne who are either on a salary or operating from a shop front. Fees charged include the initial consultation, pattern-making, calico mock-ups (where necessary), at least 2 to 3 fittings, and the final finishing.”
